Donald Trump Compliments Kim Jong Un In Fox Interview

16 June 2018

President Donald Trump declared Washington's nuclear stand-off with North Korea "largely solved" on Friday, after he gave young autocrat Kim Jong Un his telephone number and cancelled USA war games.

"He's the head of the country", Trump said of Kim during a live interview on Fox News' "Fox and Friends".

Following his remarks, the President later emphasised his remarks were "sarcastic" when asked by reporters at the White House.

"The whole landscape has shifted, and I believe that we should give exercises, major exercises, a pause to see if (North Korean leader) Kim Jong Un is in fact serious about his part in negotiations", retired Admiral Harry Harris, who just stepped down as head of the USA military's Pacific Command, told a Senate hearing.

After his interview with the friendly Fox host, Trump was pressed by reporters about Kim's record of human rights atrocities and why he had not more forcefully challenged the North Korean dictator.

U.S. to offer ‘unique’ guarantees to North Korea
Last week, Trump told reporters that it would be easy to tell if a deal was possible with Kim in the first minute of the meeting. On the other hand, the pressure on Trump to gain something out of this highly-anticipated meeting has also mounted.

"I can now call him", Trump said to reporters on Friday, according to South Korea's Yonhap News.

The news came as retired Admiral Harry Harris, who has been nominated as the new U.S. ambassador to South Korea, voiced support for a pause in major war games to test the North's commitment to dialogue after the summit with the US.

Trump said the Federal Bureau of Investigation looks "very bad".

"I want my people to do the same". "However, if there is political will and a mutual commitment, this project could take place, strengthening not only energy, but also military and political security in this rather turbulent region", Gazprom said in a corporate newsletter back in October 2012.

The two agreed to "continuously strengthen efforts to provide defence support, based on the solid South Korea-US alliance", the South Korean defence ministry said.

Trump has said he trusts Kim to follow through as the two countries negotiate dismantling North Korea's nuclear program.

The Russian leader had a meeting with North Korean official Kim Yong Nam on Thursday, at which he handed over an invitation for Mr Kim to visit later in 2018. "I mean, I could go through a lot of nations where a lot of bad things were done". "I think it is something that could happen". There was no collusion. Trump claimed it was "the Democrats' law" that his administration is now following, and that he hates "the children being taken away". "I hated them from the day I came in".

The White House defended the salute on Thursday afternoon. Mr. Trump tweeted early Friday morning.

But David Litt, a speechwriter to former President Barack Obama, said blaming the listener for not getting the joke is a way to avoid responsibility for going too far.
