Florida candidate makes 'monkey' comment about black opponent

30 August 2018

Florida voters know the race of DeSantis' opponent.

In nearly every way Gillum - the Democratic nominee for governor - and DeSantis - the GOP nominee for governor - are at opposite ends of the political spectrum. Gillum's surprise victory for the Democratic nomination for governor of Florida sets up a race between a young, black progressive with an aspirational working-class message and DeSantis, a Republican who has staked his political career on his ties to President Trump.

On Tuesday, more than 3.5 million people voted out of 13 million registered Florida voters for a turnout rate of 27 per cent, the highest for a non-presidential primary in the state since 2002.

Greene also issued a written statement supporting Gillum: "I don't regret a moment or a dollar spent on this election.I am proud to get behind our nominee, Andrew Gillum".

The statement continued, "Our family is immensely grateful for the support and kindness of all his caregivers over the a year ago, and for the continuing outpouring of concern and affection from John's many friends and associates, and the many thousands of people who are keeping him in their prayers". How much influence does the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party have?

Late Night Shows (And The Yankees) Pay Tribute To Aretha Franklin
Aretha Franklin's funeral will be held on 31 August in her hometown of Detroit , her publicist has said. After honoring her, Grande discussed the buzziest song on Sweetener , a track called "Pete Davidson".

Their policy differences are pronounced: DeSantis is pro-gun, and anti-tax; Gillum boasts about beating the National Rifle Association in a lawsuit and is calling for an increase in corporate taxes.

From there, a C-32 military aircraft will take McCain to the East Coast for another public viewing at the U.S. Capitol on Friday.

They're seeking to succeed Gov. Rick Scott, who can't run for re-election because of term limits and is instead challenging Democratic U.S. Sen.

Rep. Martha McSally (R., Ariz.) embraced Trump on the campaign trail to win the Arizona U.S. Senate Republican primary and easily beat challengers from the hard right who had engendered considerable controversy: Sheriff Joe Arpaio and State Senator Kelli Ward.

American Bridge, closely associated with the Democratic Party and heavily funded by NY billionaire George Soros, contends in a news release that the ad is part of a campaign aimed at painting DeSantis as someone focused on appeasing Trump, "not helping Florida families".

Facing new pressures, Canadian negotiators re-enter trade talks with U.S., Mexico
One big question after Monday's announcement is when, if ever, the USA will lift tariffs on Mexican aluminum and steel. At one point, Trump mused that simply imposing punishing tariffs on Canadian cars would be easier.

DeSantis is expected to continue his messages about being tough on illegal immigration and a watchdog for government spending.

But the win also comes as the FBI is investigating corruption at city hall. However, lobbyist Adam Corey, who appears to be at the center of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was a longtime Gillum friend and ally until Gillum cut ties with him past year, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. His mother drove a school bus and his father was a construction worker. But he had prominent elected officials - including Congressman Alcee Hastings, Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam and state Rep. Shevrin Jones, D-West Park, strongly advocating on his behalf.

Fox News distanced itself from DeSantis' comment, made about 12 hours after Gillum pulled off a historic upset to become Florida's first black major-party gubernatorial nominee.

Simply put, the progressive movement has been able to get voters to the polls in a way that traditional Democratic campaigns have not.

"But in this loss, and in this sorrow, I take comfort in this: John McCain, hero of the republic and to his little girl, wakes today to something more glorious than anything on this earth".

Trump's failures on McCain show his true self
Trump and McCain had a tense relationship, and McCain was one of the administration's most outspoken Republican critics. Other names being floated as potential successors are state political stalwarts Jon Kyl, who was McCain's U.S.
