The New York Times reported the district under contest, the Seventh Congressional District, stretching from Boston's Dorchester and Roxbury neighborhoods to the Cambridge and Somerville across the Charles River, is MA only majority non-white district, but Capuano, who is white, has never faced a serious primary challenger in his Congressional tenure. She is poised to become the only black member of Massachusetts' mostly male congressional delegation. And precinct-level data shows Pressley was likely dependent on white progressives voters in places with few minorities, like Sommerville. "It does point to a generational shift and this notion that a lot of folks are not waiting their turn in the way they might have years ago".
