Samsung Takes a Jab At Google Pixel 3 and Its Gigantic Notch

13 October 2018

Perhaps the biggest complaint about the new Google Pixel phones is their massive and unaesthetic notch, despite the notch-display ratio being smaller than top competitors.

IDC analyst Ramon Llamas said the Pixel 3 doesn't break new ground on hardware, but "software is a different story".

Unfortunately, Google hasn't announced exactly when this device is hitting the shelves.

Google's Pixel 3 phones are now up for preorder. It's shouting at you.

Thankfully, it's only on the Pixel 3XL. Not on the Pixel 3 or even the older Pixel 2.

Kavanaugh, Ford testify in Senate Judiciary Committee hearing
The day before the hearing, Trump said he wished the Senate moved forward with the vote instead of allowing Ford's testimony. Kavanaugh said his life has been changed forever because of these allegations and how they were handled by the committee.

O2 is offering the Pixel 3 from £43 per month and the Pixel 3 XL for £45 per month with both needing a £30 upfront payment. Google claims the new product will charge the Pixel 3 quickly and efficiently, even when using a case. Not only because of how they look, but also how they feel.

A Pixel 3, will cost you $1199 for a 64GB device, or $1349 for the 128GB model. It will be available in 3 colors: Just Black, Clearly White, and Not Pink.

The grand finale of announcements (already spoiled announcements) is the new line of Pixel phones. That's because the Pixel 3 phones run on a clean version of Android that's optimised specifically with the Pixel 3's specs in mind. Notable features mentioned is the lack of a camera for "privacy reasons", and Ambient EQ. Within, there's a feature called Top Shot; when AI comes into the picture to sieve out the best photo (whereby everyone is smilling without the possiblity of their eyes shut) when the series in shot in motion. Well, Google simultaneously unveiled the Pixel Stand as an optional accessory, in order to make the most out of this new feature. It's now more similar to optical zooming you'd find on cameras with two lenses. This feature is coming later in October. The feature will come to Google Photos and support devices which offer portrait mode, like the Pixel 2. Software adds improvements elsewhere too.

Here's a photo of a typical test location.

Google has also re-branded its AR Stickers app to Playground and updated some of its features. The lower battery life and higher price make it a lot less appealing for people who won't make the most of the new technology it brings to the table. Check out the video below, then expect to see this on your Pixel 2 in November.

US Senate braces for Kavanaugh vote after mass arrests
There's no guarantee that the senators who supported moving forward will back Kavanaugh on the final vote. But he says in a statement he is casting his vote on "what is best for West Virginia".

Google also announced that it will turn the new Chromecast into an audio Chromecast, which will allow you to play your music in sync across multiple connected speakers. The Pixel 3 XL is expected to come in a 6.2-inch QHD+ (1440×2880 pixels) display option, while a 5.5-inch display is expected to be sported on the Pixel 3.
